Since March 20, 2020, CNN has displayed a live Covid-19 dashboard in the upper-right of its daily news programming tracking the latest pandemic numbers, including infection and death counts, as seen in the image below.
The timeline below records the total seconds of airtime each day since the start of last year in which this dashboard was visible, tracking its ebbs and flows. CNN largely phased out its dashboard on January 1 of this year. Yet, despite the rapid spread of the Covid-19 Delta variant across the US and a sharp increase in infections, CNN has not brought its dashboard back, displaying it for only an hour or so each day compared with the more than 9 hours a day it was visible last year. By the end of this past June, the dashboard was down to just a few minutes a day, rising through August 2nd and then dropping sharply in the days leading up to the US withdrawal from Afghanistan and again after the Taliban took over the country.
