ABC's 'Designated Survivor' Uses 25th Amendment To Remove President

On the next episode of the ABC show Designated Survivor, the president of the United States faces removal from office after the vice president convinces his cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment on the grounds of mental fitness.

The episode, titled 'Kirkman Agonistes,' is accompanied with the description: "As more content from President Kirkman’s confidential therapy sessions continues to leak out, Vice President Darby meets secretly with the entire Cabinet, resulting in attorney Ethan West (Michael J. Fox) looking into the president’s past – while playing a large role in his future as commander in chief."

Designated Survivor is about a cabinet secretary who was thrust to the presidency after a catastrophic attack on the U.S. Capitol during the State of the Union. The show is in its second season and stars Kiefer Sutherland as President Thomas Kirkman, formerly the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.

On Sunday's episode of the Showtime series Homeland, the 25th Amendment was also invoked to stop an "unconstitutional" president.
