Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) is interviewed by CNN's Erin Burnett on the federal investigation into Burlington College when his wife Jane Sanders was president. Sanders said his wife is the "most honest person I know" and called the FBI investigation "pathetic."
"My wife is about the most honest person I know," Sanders said Tuesday night on CNN's OutFront. "All I will tell you now, Erin, is that it is a sad state of affairs in America."
Sanders would not acknowledge that his wife who has retained legal counsel is under investigation.
"I think it's fairly pathetic that when people are involved in public life, it's not only that they get attacked, but it's their wives and their families that get attacked," the Vermont Senator said.
"When she came to that college it was failing financially and academically. When she left it was in better shape than it ever been," Sanders said of the non-defunct institution.
