Pompeo to Russians: Interference In American Elections Is Unacceptable

|

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told the Russian foreign minister during a diplomatic visit to Sochi, Russia that "interference in American elections is unacceptable."

"Our elections are important and sacred and they must be kept free and fair and with no outside country," Pompeo said.

SECRETARY OF STATE MIKE POMPEO: I made clear to Foreign Minister Lavrov, as we've made clear for the past month, that interference in American elections is unacceptable. If the Russians engage in this in 2020, it would put our relationship in an even worse place than it has been.

We encourage them not to do that, we would not tolerate that. We've said this not only about the Russians but other countries as well. Our elections are important and sacred and they must be kept free and fair and with no outside country.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said he has warned the Russian foreign minister against interference in the next American presidential election. Pompeo said at a May 14 news conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov that "interference in American elections is unacceptable -- and if the Russians were engaged in that in 2020, it would put our relationship in an even worse place than it has been."
