Virginia gubernatorial nominees Terry McAuliffe, the Democrat, and Glenn Youngkin, the Republican debated on Tuesday.

On the topic of transgendered students, giving parents a say in their education, and voting on what books should be allowed in the library, McAuliffe said: "I don't think parents should be telling schools what they should teach."

"The parents had the right to veto books... also take them off the shelves," McAuliffe said. "I'm not going to let parents come into schools and actually take books out and make their own decisions."

"I don't think parents should be telling schools what they should teach," McAuliffe added.
