Trump: TikTok Will Be "Out of Business In The U.S." Unless China Sells It By September 15

President Trump said Monday that the Chinese-owned social media app TikTok is "too big and too invasive" to be owned by a rival country. Trump said it will be "out of business in the United States" on September 15th unless it is sold to an American company, mentioning that he had spoken to Microsoft about the sale.

Trump added that a "very substantial portion of [the sale price] is going to have to come into the Treasury" because "it is a great asset, but it is not a great asset in the United States " without his approval.

"So, it will close down on Sept. 15 unless Microsoft or somebody else is able to buy it and work out a deal, an appropriate deal, so the Treasury of the United States gets a lot of money. A lot of money, OK?"

"Look, it can’t be controlled, for security reasons, by China. Too big, too invasive, and it can’t be. And here’s the deal, I don’t mind if, whether it’s Microsoft or somebody else (a big company a secure company, a very American company) buys it," he said.
