Biden Says Confederate Statues "Belong In A Museum," Draws Line At Tearing Down Washington Or Columbus

Former VP Joe Biden channeled Indiana Jones on Tuesday when he said that Confederate memorials and other such offensive or "distasteful" statues "belong in museums, they don’t belong in public places."

However, he drew the line at figures like George Washington and Christopher Columbus.

"The idea of comparing whether or not George Washington owned slaves or Thomas Jefferson owned slaves, and somebody who was in rebellion and committed treason trying to take down a union to keep slavery, I think there's a distinction," Biden said.

"Taking down a Christopher Columbus statue, or George Washington, I think that the government has a responsibility to protect," he said.
