MSNBC's Joe Scarborough calmed a "panicking" Donny Deutsch Thursday on "Morning Joe" after he said it looks like Sen. Bernie Sanders is running away with the Democratic presidential nomination.
Last year, Deutsch warned that he believes President Trump is "not beyond starting a civil war" to keep himself in office and that Democrats could never beat Trump in 2020 if they "play fair."
"Donny, get a paper bag, and breathe into it deeply," Scarborough advised the Manhattan marketing executive. "Maybe our reports that Michael Bloomberg's death politically are greatly exaggerated to paraphrase Mark Twain... he's going to put enough money over the next week to completely cover up a lot of what happened" at last night's debate.
DONNY DEUTSCH: Joe, is anybody panicked beside me in that it does look like Sanders is rolling and 2/3 of the country thinks we're going in the right direction, and a guy who wants to burn it down. I don't see him having any shot in a general election, and I'm panicked. I am absolutely panicked.
JOE SCARBOROUGH: Donny, get a paper bag, and breathe into it deeply. Because we are still in February.
SCARBOROUGH: Spring training games haven't officially started.
Go back and read what everybody was saying about Donald Trump four years ago in February of 2016. Everybody was saying that there was no way he could be elected president of the United States, or almost everybody was saying that. We've got a long, long way to go.
We have a long way to go to this convention, and, you know what, reports, maybe our reports that Michael Bloomberg's death politically are greatly exaggerated to paraphrase Mark Twain, the guy, again, he's going to put enough money over the next week to completely cover up a lot of what happened last night, and who knows, maybe he'll actually listen to an adviser next week and be prepared for a debate, but that's a big if. It is -- it's hard, as you certainly know to change a politician's stripes when they're in their 70s.
