In an interview with the 'Des Moines Register' editorial board on Friday, 2020 Democratic presidential candidate former Vice President Joe Biden said he will not testify at the Senate impeachment trial for President Donald Trump. Biden said he would not testify even if subpoenaed, adding it would create a "diversion" and lead to the media covering him and letting Trump "get away."
"It's all designed to deal with Trump doing what he's done his whole life, trying to take the focus off him," Biden said. "The issue is not what I did. Not a single person [has] said I did anything other than my job."
"This is all about a diversion," he added.
"What are you going to cover?" Biden said to DMR Executive Editor Carol Hunter in response to a question. "You guys are going to cover for three weeks anything that I said. And [Trump is] going to get away. You guys buy into it all the time. Not a joke."
"Think what it’s about," he said to the reporters. "It's all about what he does all the time, his entire career. Take the focus off. This guy violated the Constitution. He said it in the driveway of the White House. He acknowledged he asked for help."
"No one’s taken as much heat and as many lies thrown at them as I have, but again, this is not about me. It's not about my family. It’s about the nation. And we have to reach out and unify this country," Biden said.
