House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff is set to brief members of the press on the findings from the past several weeks of impeachment inquiry hearings he led, ahead of the first day of Judiciary Committee hearings beginning Wednesday.
"The impeachment inquiry has found that President Trump, personally and acting through agents within and outside of the U.S. government, solicited the interference of a foreign government, Ukraine, to benefit his reelection," Schiff wrote in the report.
"I think Adam Schiff is a deranged human being. I think he grew up with a complex for lots of reasons that are obvious. I think he's a very sick man and he lies," President Trump said about Chairman Schiff during a press availability in London on Tuesday afternoon.
Schiff wrote in the report that he found "the President placed his own personal and political interests above the national interests of the United States, sought to undermine the integrity of the U.S. presidential election process, and endangered U.S. national security."
Schiff began his statement with a Trump quote: "I would like you to do us a favor though."
"This is not about Ukraine," Schiff said. "This is about our democracy."
"If we don’t care about this, we can darn well be assured the president will be back doing this all over again."
"The facts here are not seriously contested," he argued. "This kind of conduct by a president of the United States, putting his own personal and political interest above the interests of the American people, is exactly why [the Founders] prescribed a remedy as extraordinary as the remedy of impeachment."
