FOX News' Tucker Carlson, in his monologue Wednesday night, said the national security state hated President Trump from the first day because they realized he couldn't be controlled.
TUCKER CARLSON, FOX NEWS: By Nancy Pelosi’s account, impeaching President Trump is the last thing she ever wanted to do. In fact it wasn’t really on her mind, she’s said, until news of Trump’s norm-shattering phone call with the president of Ukraine emerged into public view. At that point, impeachment became inevitable. As a patriotic American and a person of deep and sincere religious faith, Pelosi had no choice. The die was cast. She had to remove the him from office immediately. That’s Pelosi’s story. We don’t read minds, so we can’t really know if it’s true. What we can say with certainty is that permanent Washington has been thinking about impeaching Donald Trump for a long time — indeed, before he was even elected president.
Consider the following clip, from a woman called Evelyn Farkas. Farkas was an Obama appointee at the defense department. She helped run the last administration’s Ukraine policy. She was also an enthusiastic booster of the Hillary Clinton for president campaign. Two weeks before the 2016 election, Farkas appeared at a panel discussion, which, thankfully for us, was videotaped. Someone asked her who she thought would win the election. Here’s what she said:
FARKAS: We do have a strong system of checks and balances. And actually if Donald Trump were elected I believe he would be impeached pretty quickly or somebody else would have to take over the government and I'm not even joking.
Now to be clear, we aren’t alleging that Evelyn Farkas was part of a conspiracy. Conspiracies suggest secrecy. What Farkas and the rest of the national security state did was never hidden. They bragged about it. They hated Trump from the first day. Yes, he’s vulgar, but that had nothing to do with their loathing. They disagreed with Trump, and most voters, on the issues, particularly on Russia. But more than anything, they couldn’t control Donald Trump. That was the unforgivable crime. So from day one, they planned to take him out. This Ukraine nonsense is just the latest pretext. A story in the New York Times this morning reveals as much. It turns out that House Intel Committee Chairman Adam Schiff orchestrated the story in secret long before it emerged into public view.
The so-called whistleblower contacted Schiff’s office, which recommended a lawyer. Schiff later lied about this on television, claiming his office had never spoken to the CIA employee directly. Schiff had to know it would undermine the story, and hence impeachment itself. Tonight there are credible rumors that Adam Schiff himself planted today’s New York Times story. He knew it was coming out and wanted the most sympathetic possible coverage. Either way, the story gravely damages the credibility of the original story. Not that anyone in Washington cares. They’ve been waiting for this for three years.
