During a press conference Wednesday with the President of Finland, President Trump clashed with Reuters White House Correspondent Jeff Mason and ABC White House Correspondent Jonathan Karl about what he originally wanted the Ukrainian president to do regarding Joe and Hunter Biden. Trump sidesteps the answer multiple times and angrily orders Mason to ask a question to the President of Finland instead.
"Are you talking to me?" Trump asked. "Are you ready? We have the president of Finland. Ask him a question."
"I just wanted to follow up on the one I asked you," Mason asked.
"Did you hear me? Did you hear me? Ask him a question. I've given you a long answer," Trump said. "Ask this gentleman a question, don't be rude."
JEFF MASON, REUTERS: Mr. President, can you just make clear right now, what did you or what do you want President Zelensky to do regarding Joe and Hunter Biden?
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: If you look at what he said, I think he brought up the name Rudy Giuliani. What I've said si the following, and I've said this loud and clear... Why are we the only ones that give the big money to the Ukraine? We give money to Ukraine, and it has bothered me from day one... I say, how come it's always the United States that gets ripped?
[transcript in progress]
We were the sucker country for years and years -- we're not the sucker country anymore. We gave the money because Rob Portman and others called me and asked, but I don't like to be the sucker. But European countries are helped way more than we are, and other countries should pay more to help Ukraine.
JON KARL: What did you want about Biden?
TRUMP: Look, Biden and his son are stone-cold crooked. And you know it. And so do we.
MASON: The question, sir, was what did you want Zelensky to do about Vice President Biden and his son Hunter.
TRUMP: Are you talking to me?
MASON: Yeah, it is just a follow up of what I asked you, sir.
TRUMP: Are you ready? We have the president of Finland. Ask him a question.
MASON: I just wanted to follow up on the one I asked you.
TRUMP: Did you hear me? Did you hear me? Ask him a question. I've given you a long answer. Ask this gentleman a question, don't be rude.
MASON: I don't want to be rude, I just wanted you to have a chance to answer the question I asked you.
TRUMP: I answered everything. It's a whole hoax, and you know who's playing into the hoax? People like you and the fake news media. And I say in many cases, the corrupt media because you're corrupt. Much of the media in this country is not just fake, it is corrupt. You have some very fine people too, great journalists and reporters, but to a large extent it is corrupt and it is fake. Ask the president of Finland a question, please.
MASON: OK I'll move on now.
