President Trump praises FNC's John Roberts for asking him a question about a New York Times report that the Ukraine whistleblower met with a member of Rep. Adam Schiff's staff before filing an official whistle-blower complaint.
"I love that question," Trump said. "It shows that Adam Schiff is a fraud, I love that question, thank you, John."
"Can I finish asking it?" the reporter asked.
"There's nothing to finish!" declared the president.
"So the whistleblower, according to this report, met with a member of Adam Schiff's staff."
"I hate to say, it's the New York Times, I can't believe it. Maybe they're getting better," Trump quipped.
"Your response to the fact that happened?" asked the FOX News reporter. "And it points to the fact Schiff may have learned prior?"
"I think it is a scandal," Trump said. "I'd go a step further, I think he probably helped write it. That's what the word is."
Schiff's office responded shortly after the exchange:
The House Intelligence Committee said it did not review the whistleblower's complaint in advance — just as President Trump claimed, without evidence, that Chair Adam Schiff "helped write it." https://t.co/agiPNuoeUo— CNN (@CNN) October 2, 2019
