TUCKER CARLSON, FOX NEWS: Remember the latest New York Times hit piece on Brett Kavanaugh? Where they found a new accusation of sexual misconduct, but then later had to admit it was all a sham? It feels like it happened about a year ago. But no. It was just last week. That’s the Trump-era news cycle. Scandals that used to go on for months, now end in hours. Nothing illustrates that better than this bizarre Ukraine scandal.
A week ago, it wasn’t even a story. Last night, we were on the brink of impeachment. And now, it seems to be over. The same angry news anchors who brought you Stormy Daniels and the Russia hoax, wanted you to know that Big Orange’s days in the White House were over. Trump threatened to withhold military aid to Ukraine unless they did something bad to Joe Biden and his family. That’s a crime, they shouted. Trump was finished. Then, this morning, they turned out to be wrong. Actual evidence emerged. The administration released a transcript of the president’s phone call with the Ukrainian head of state. It shows none of the things the news anchors claimed it would.
Read it for yourself. There was no extortion. Trump never even mentions military aid. Yes, they’re saying now, but he asked a foreign government to investigate an american citizen. That’s immoral. OK. But was it immoral when three Democratic senators wrote a letter to Ukraine just last year, demanding investigations into Trump? No answer on that, weirdly. Instead, they’re telling us the transcript of the phone call can’t be real. It must be doctored. Watch Chuck Schumer and Adam Schiff spin their conspiracy:
HAYES: Do you trust the white house enough to take that transcript and believe that is an actual representation of what transpired?
SCHIFF: I think sadly we cannot trust the administration with respect to anything that it produces...
SCHUMER: Simply to release the transcript is not going to come close to ending the need of the American public and the congress to see what actually happened.
That was last tonight, before the transcript came out. Now, Schiff’s conspiracy-addled brain has lurched into a new direction. The transcript, the one he’s already denounced as fake, is also real, he says. And the reason it doesn’t show President Trump doing any of the things that supposedly justify impeachment, he explains, is because the president is speaking in a secret code:
This is how a mafia boss talks what have you done for us we've done so much for you. I have a favor I want to ask you. What is that favor of course the favor is to investigate his political rival ...
A classic mafia like shakedown of a foreign leader.
Schiff’s a legitimate nutcase. Sorry, but he is. It’s hard to believe he’s actually in congress, much less a committee chairman. Too bad the 25th amendment doesn’t apply to congressmen. To be fair, most Democrats aren’t anywhere near this crazy. They’re just cynical. Very, very cynical. Watch congressman Al Green explain what’s actually driving impeachment:
GREEN: I’m concerned that if we don’t impeach this president, he will get re-elected.
Power, of course. That’s what it’s about. Nobody pushing for impeachment actually cares about secret deals with foreign leaders, or justice, or the truth. What they care about is winning the 2020 presidential election. Democratic leaders have decided that impeaching trump is essential if they’re going to win next year. So they’re staking everything on the weirdest, flimsiest scandal imaginable. It’s unlikely to work. If personal attacks on Trump were effective, Hillary Clinton would be running for reelection. In the end, the real loser is likely to be Joe Biden. Biden is supposed to be the safe choice who will energize the Obama coalition and win back the white house. Yet now, Democrats have in effect demanded that we spend the next six months talking about Biden’s alleged corruption. That can’t help his campaign. In fact it looks like sabotage. Is it? Maybe. Or maybe Democrats has just become so obsessed with destroying Trump, that they’re destroying themselves.
