Tucker Carlson, in his opening monologue Thursday night on his FOX News show, said when Canadian PM Justin Trudeau acknowledged he has white privilege in his apology for wearing blacklist he is really transferring blame to society.
"I did something awful because society itself is rotten. Therefore I need to keep telling other people how to live their lives," Carlson explained Trudeau's logic.
TUCKER CARLSON, FOX NEWS: Is it really all that surprising that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wore blackface? When you think about it, not really. In fact, you might have guessed it. It’s a little like finding out that your super-sensitive brother-in-law, the one who tells you he’s a feminist, the one who’s always scolding you for your sexism, is in fact hitting on the babysitter. Of course he is. The virtue is always a cover for the sin. That’s the key to understanding the modern left. Whatever they’re accusing you of doing, they’re doing themselves, but more enthusiastically. That’s definitely the story of Justin Trudeau. Like your brother-in-law with the ponytail, Trudeau brags about being a feminist. Use the wrong word in his presence and he’ll launch into a self-righteous lecture. Justin Trudeau may be the most sanctimonious head of state on planet Earth. So of course he was leading a secret life as a racist. That’s why he’s so sanctimonious. There are now at least three separate instances of Justin Trudeau in blackface. And, as he conceded today, there could absolutely be more:
REPORTER: You left us with the impression there was only one other incident and since then Global News has released a video which seems to show a third incident. So exactly how many times have you darkened your skin with makeup in an act which you describe as racist?
TRUDEAU: I shared the moments that I recollected but I recognize that it is absolutely unacceptable to do and I appreciate calling it makeup but it was blackface.
Three separate blackface incidents. Even adjusting for youthful indiscretions, that’s a lot. An awful lot. What exactly is going on with Justin Trudeau? It turns out, he explained today, that he suffers from an especially virulent case of something called privilege:
TRUDEAU: I’ve always acknowledged I come from a p[lace of privilege but i now need to acknowledge that that comes with a massive blind spot.
Got that? White privilege is the problem. If you’re not listening carefully, it might sound like Trudeau took responsibility for what he did. Just the opposite. When Trudeau blames privilege, he’s transferring responsibility to the rest of us: I did something awful because society itself is rotten. Therefore I need to keep telling other people how to live their lives. It’s a justification, not a confession. Only the news media was dumb enough to buy it. Over at CNN, for example, Don Lemon was deeply impressed:
TRUDEAU CLIP: Now I realize it was something racist to do and I’m deeply sorry.
LEMON: Wow, a leader apologizing. It seems odd, doesn't it? Because we have one who doesn't. He says he didn’t think it was racist at the time but now he knows better. What do you think of that?... I do have to say this before we go. Think about it how you want to think about it. When someone apologizes – Wow! We don’t often see that here, especially a world leader who is saying “I should have known better and I’m sorry”. You can think about it however you want but to me, that means a lot.
What a difference a year makes. You’ll remember back to when Megyn Kelly of NBC found herself under attack. Kelly herself never wore blackface. She just didn’t seem offended enough by certain Halloween costumes. For that, Lemon told us, she had to be destroyed:
LEMON: I’m just gonna be honest. Megvyn is 47 years old. She’s our age. There’s never been a time in her life when black face has been acceptable... I wonder how much diversity she has on her staff. I don’t know. I’m not there. But I would imagine there’s not a lot because people would have informed her... This is what people of the larger culture don’t understand about racism and privilege.
Hmmm. Seems like Don L’Mon has suddenly become a lot more forgiving. Has he had a change of heart? Or could it be that because Justin Trudeau is a powerful leader on the left, he gets a pass no matter what? You know the answer. You’ve seen it before. Earlier this year, Virginia governor Ralph Northam was caught wearing blackface. Or maybe it was a Klan hood. He won’t tell us which. Whatever it was, Northam decided he didn’t need to resign over it. The left pretended to care for a few minutes, and then forgot the whole thing ever happened. Northam himself said that the incident showed, quote, “deep wounds in Virginia.” In other words, Northam himself wasn’t really guilty of anything. Instead, the people of Virginia carried collective guilt, guilt they could only expiate by giving Northam more power.
Because that’s what this is always about: Power. When you make a mistake, it means you’re a sinner, worthy of damnation. When they screw up, it’s society’s fault. Meaning your fault. They’ve got you coming and going. Pretty nice trick. Being woke means never having to say you’re sorry.
