Wednesday during an appearance on "The Jeff Poor Show" on Alabama's WVNN radio, Rep. Mo Brooks warned that the "growing influence" of Islam in the Democratic Party will eventually lead to the party becoming "very strongly anti-Jewish and anti-Israel."
"Keep in mind – Muslims, more so than most people, have great animosity towards Israel and the Jewish faith," Brooks noted.
While Reps. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib are the first Muslim women elected to Congress, they joined Andre Carson, a Muslim Democrat from Indiana, in the House, bringing the number of Muslims in the Congress to three.
"I think you’re going to see this influence in the Democratic Party grow and grow and grow over time but ultimately become the dominant influence within the Democratic Party, where the Democratic Party will become very strongly anti-Jewish and anti-Israel," he concluded.
JEFF POOR: A lot going on, first and foremost, the weird things going on with Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and Donald Trump and Israel, and the comments he's making. The media are just apoplectic about it. Your take? To me, it just seems like Democrats doing Democrat stuff.
REP. MO BROOKS: No, I think you're spot on. There, of course, is a lot of controversies. Usually, there is not much controversy with respect to Israel. Usually, the United States Congress is overwhelmingly close to 100%, if not 100%, in support of recognizing Israel as a long-term American ally, and that we have a mutual defense relationship. Unfortunately, we now have people in the United States Congress who view Israel as an enemy, and that makes for an entirely different mix of conversation.
JEFF POOR: It seems like a trend in the Democratic Party -- that maybe they don't want to say it outright on the news, but it seems like there is a trend questioning the alliance the U.S. has with Israel.
REP. MO BROOKS: There is, and I think it’s based on the growing influence of the Islamic religion in the Democratic Party ranks.
Keep in mind – Muslims more so than most people have great animosity towards Israel and the Jewish faith. And as you have more and more Muslims in the United States, as they gain greater and greater influence in elections, particularly in Democratic Party primaries – then you’re going to see more and more people like Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and company that are anti-Israel, and that brings an entirely different viewpoint into the United States Congress.
I think you’re going to see this influence in the Democratic Party grow and grow and grow over time but ultimately become the dominant influence within the Democratic Party, where the Democratic Party will become very strongly anti-Jewish and anti-Israel...
I don't know of any Republicans at any level of government who are anti-Israel or anti-Jewish, but that's the Republican side. I think it is a bad trend for the Democratic Party, but it is nonetheless where the Democratic Party is headed.
