Watch: New York Times Presents 1619 Project Memorializing 400th Anniversary Of Slavery In America

Via New York Times -- Four hundred years ago, on August 20, 1619, a ship carrying more than 20 enslaved Africans arrived in Virginia. In this presentation, the New York Times remembers this anniversary with an evening of conversation and performance featuring Nikole Hannah-Jones, Wesley Morris, Jamelle Bouie, Tyehimba Jess and more.

"It aims to reframe the country's history, understanding 1619 as our true founding, and placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of slavery and the contributions of black Americans at the very center of the story we tell ourselves about who we are," the Times states about the project.
