NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio told NY1 on Saturday that the NYPD will investigate the allegation that Donald Trump raped "Elle" advice columnist E. Jean Carroll in the mid-1990s as soon as they receive a complaint from the victim. President Trump has vigorously denied the accusation.
"This is the most serious of all the charges [against Trump]. The moment we in New York City and our police department have a complaint we will investigate it immediately and we will find out the truth," de Blasio, a candidate for the 2020 Democratic nomination, told NY1's Grace Rauh.
Law & Crime notes that the incident is alleged to have occurred before New York removed the 5-year statute of limitations for first-degree rape in 2006.
