Biden Reverses On Hyde Amendment: "I Support A Woman’s Right To Choose"

Former Vice President Biden reversed his position Thursday night on an important issue for Democratic primary voters, saying he no longer supports the Hyde Amendment, which bans federal funding for abortion in most cases.

"If I believe health care is a right, as I do, I can no longer support an amendment that makes that right dependent on someone’s ZIP code," Biden said. "I’ve been working through the finer details of my health care plan like others in this race, and I’ve been struggling with the problems that Hyde now presents."

"I can't justify leaving millions of women without access to the care they need and the ability to ... exercise their constitutionally protected right."
