House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal formally requested copies of President Trump’s tax returns from the IRS Wednesday. Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office later Wednesday afternoon, President Trump said he "would not be inclined to" allow his tax returns to be released. "We're under audit despite what people said," Trump said. "Because the numbers are big."
"Until such time as I'm not under audit, I would not be inclined to do that."
REPORTER: Mr. President, the chairman of the democratic house ways and means committee moments ago asked the IRS for six years of your tax returns.
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: Is that all?
REPORTER: That's all.
TRUMP: Oh. Usually, it's ten. So I guess they're giving up. We're under audit despite what people said and working that as -- I'm always under audit it seems but I've been under audit for many years because the numbers are big and I guess when you have a name, you are audited but until such time as I'm not under audit, I would not be inclined to do that.
