Former Starbucks CEO and a potential independent candidate in the 2020 US presidential race Howard Schultz described the Democratic platform as 'extreme,' while speaking at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Festival in Austin on Saturday.
"We can't try to solve one extreme with the other, and now we have a new extreme: That's the Democratic platform. I said, these are well-intentioned people, but I have the right to disagree with what they are proposing. At the core of our country, the foundation is a free enterprise system which is core to our democracy," Schultz said. "For us to start moving towards a level of socialism is such an extreme position, and something that I think is inconsistent with the values and the heritage and the tradition of the country, and that is what Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and others are proposing to try to defeat Donald Trump with a far extreme proposal."
"If Donald Trump runs against one of those types of candidates, it is my belief that Donald Trump will be reelected. The vast majority of Americans are not going to embrace socialism."
