TMZ catches Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) walking the halls of Congress and ask her about presidential candidates and marijuana. Ocasio-Cortez said President Trump is "scared" of her 'Green New Deal' proposal and that "he doesn't own the airwaves anymore."
"We need to accept that there is nothing more inherently damaging about marijuana than say legal substances like alcohol or anything else," the freshman Congresswoman told TMZ on Tuesday. "So, I'm glad that we're moving towards a more just position as a party and that we're moving to legalize marijuana but not just legalize marijuana but to really make up for the damages done by the War on Drugs and the people who were unjustly incarcerated by the War on Drugs."
"So, some of the president[ial candidates], would it be okay even if they say -- like, I know, Senator Harris, when she said yesterday that it was a long time ago. So, would it be okay to have a president who say that they do smoke?" the TMZ cameraman asked.
"I don't care, yeah. I don't care. It's fine with me. You're not hurting anybody, you know," Ocasio-Cortez answered.
"There are plenty of people who drink. They'll go out to happy hour. You know, they'll go out, have one, two, three [drinks]," she said.
"How is that different?" she added.
"The Green Deal. The president had something to say yesterday. What do you think that's about?" the TMZ guy asked.
"I think he's scared and he's finally seeing that he doesn't own the airwaves anymore. And, so, yes, he'll respond to things that are getting attention," Ocasio-Cortez said.
