AP: Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi says she thinks Wednesday's meeting with President Donald Trump was a "set-up so he could walk out." The meeting, part of negotiations to end the partial shutdown, ended after 14 minutes when Trump walked out.
Pelosi said that Trump didn't want to build a border wall, but instead wanted the political fight to serve as a distraction from other issues.
"I don't really think he wants a solution," Pelosi said. "I think he loves the distraction that this is from his other problems and that's most unfortunate."
SPEAKER NANCY PELOSI: What [President Trump] is proposing is not the best way for us to secure our borders. And let me just make the clarity. Not only was the president un-presidential -- surprise, surprise -- yesterday and his behavior. I think the meeting was a set-up so he could walk out, but I'll say just that.
As I said to him yesterday, these people cannot go to their fathers to cover their payments, their costs. Can you? Can any of you if this happened to you? If you can, good luck. That's wonderful for you...
A comprehensive immigration reform is what this debate should be about. And quite frankly when the president talks about this being a national security issue, no it really isn't. It's about a policy that is discriminatory as to where people are coming into this country.
