'The View' Co-Host Hostin: "A Woman's Word Is Enough" To Prosecute Sexual Assault

|

'The View' co-host and attorney Sunny Hostin, arguing against due process, said on Thursday's show that "a woman's word is enough" and that she has taken cases to trial based on a woman's testimony and no witnesses. She said you don't need a witness, all you need is "someone's truth."

Hostin celebrated the progression of how the law treats sexual assault: "We finally said a woman's word is enough."

"I've taken many cases to trial with just a woman's word," Hostin said to applause. "And now you have the First Lady of the United States telling women everywhere your word is not enough. I think it does so much damage, and quite frankly, that isn't the law."

"You don't need a witness. You don't need forensic evidence. You need someone's truth, and we heard Dr. Ford's truth," Hostin celebrated.

HOSTIN, 'THE VIEW' CO-HOST: We finally said a woman's word is enough. I've taken many cases to trial with just a woman's word. [ Applause ] And now you have the First Lady of the United States telling women everywhere your word is not enough. I think it does so much damage, and quite frankly, that isn't the law...

Testimony is evidence! You don't need corroborating evidence. You don't need a rape kit. You don't need witnesses because oftentimes, guess what? There are no witnesses during rape! When you're talking about evidence, testimonial evidence is the very best in the system! ...

And the law is very clear that testimonial evidence, a woman standing there taking an oath and saying this happened to me is enough. You don't need a witness. You don't need forensic evidence. You need someone's truth, and we heard Dr. Ford's truth.
