Former Republican Steve Schmidt reacts to Trump's attacks on the testimony by Kavanaugh accuser Dr. Christine Blasey Ford on the Tuesday broadcast of Brian Williams' MSNBC show The 11th Hour. Schmidt denounced Trump for his comments about Dr. Ford at a Tuesday night MAGA rally in Southaven, Mississippi.
Schmidt also called Senator Lindsey Graham's tirade at the Kavanaugh hearing last Thursday "the smallness of a small man."
"What Donald Trump showed tonight he is as contemptible as he is vulgar. He is as cruel as he is dishonest. No American citizen deserves that treatment from the head of state, from the commander-in-chief, from the president of the United States of America, a steward of an office once inhabited by men like George Washington and Abraham Lincoln," Schmidt said.
"When you look at the performance of someone like Lindsey Graham, for example, his angry tirade, the smallness of a small man, a principleless man in this moment," the former Republican strategist said.
"What the American people are seeing is the degradation of 242 years of institutions to enhance the pursuit of happiness and defend American democracy and liberty. It's beyond awful, it's tragic," Schmidt concluded.
