Deputy U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Robert Khuzami announced Tuesday afternoon that Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump's former personal attorney, made a deal to plead guilty in Manhattan federal court to eight criminal counts including tax fraud, false statements to a bank and campaign finance violations tied to his work for Trump.
Cohen said in a plea deal that "in coordination and at the direction of a candidate for federal office" he kept information that would have been harmful to the candidate and the campaign from becoming public.
"Today, as you heard, Michael Cohen plead guilty to 8 felony charges," he said.
