CNN's Toobin on Lifetime SCOTUS Appointments: Framers Didn't Contemplate Terms Lasting 30 Years


CNN's Jeffrey Toobin reacts to President Trump's nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court:

TOOBIN: You know, when the Constitution was written in the late 18th century, people were expected to die in their 50s. The framers never contemplated that these terms would regularly go to 30 plus years as they do now. And, you know, that -- I'm glad everybody is living longer but that's what raises the stakes on his appointment on this nomination fight so much -- so much more because they serve for so long.
