Michael Steele said to stop the "political crazy" because President Trump's nominee to replace the retiring Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy will be confirmed by red state Democrats and moderate Republican Senators like Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski. He said we will not see anything near what will happen when Ruth Bader Ginsburg leaves the court, adding "the next battle will be the battle."
"This is a warm-up," he said. "You won't see anything near what we're going to see when Ruth Bader Ginsburg or one of the other liberate justices step down and Donald Trump is president of the United States making the pick."
Steele on an MSNBC panel Thursday morning discussing judges Brett Kavanaugh, Amy Coney Barrett and Raymond Kethledge:
MICHAEL STEELE: I think they all three get confirmed... I don't think any of them are that tough to get confirmed. I'll tell you why. If they're cut out of the Gorsuch mold, it's going to give cover to the red state Democrats who everybody's fretting over and is going to give cover to, you know Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski as well. This nominee will get through the process period. Let's stop the dancing and political crazy and move on because the next battle will be the real battle on the Supreme Court.
PETER ALEXANDER, MSNBC: A lot of Democrats said this is the battle.
STEELE: No, this is a warm-up. You won't see anything near what we're going to see when Ruth Bader Ginsburg or one of the other liberate justices step down and Donald Trump is president of the United States making the pick.
