Speaking to the crowd at CNN's town hall on gun violence, superintendent of Broward County Public Schools Robert Runcie responded to President Trump's suggestion to arm teachers, saying: "We don't need to put guns in the hands of teachers. You know what we need? We need to arm our teachers with more money in their pocket."
He also suggested that teacher compensation be part of the national dialogue on school shootings, adding: "This country pays a lot of lip service to the importance of the teaching profession, but we never put our money behind it. Let teacher compensation, benefits, and working conditions be part of this national debate as well!"
