On the 16th anniversary of the war in Afghanistan, ABC News political analyst Matthew Dowd comments that like "every other Empire, the British Empire, the Soviet empire, even Alexander the Great," the U.S. is going to have to eventually give up on Afghanistan.
MARTHA RADDATZ: You know, and I think of the soldiers and marines who are headed over there who were toddlers when 9/11 happened.
MATTHEW DOWD: Yes, it's -- there are soldiers now that are having children older than the war -- I mean, older than the war.
RADDATZ: And do you think it will make a difference, those troops?
DOWD: None. It's not going to make any difference at all. And I think at that point in time, we need to... which is every other empire, the British Empire, the Soviet empire, even Alexander the Great, at some point you just have to pull out because you realize it's not going to work.
