On Wednesday's edition of the Special Report panel on Fox News Channel, RCP co-founder Tom Bevan responded to a federal judge blocking President Trump's executive order to cut off funding to sanctuary cities. Bevan said that it is not necessarily a bad thing for President Trump to face legal challenges on policy -- his hard line stance has already encouraged many former sanctuary cities to abandon the policy.
"I don't think it is a bad thing for Donald Trump to be fighting with the courts on this issue. If you talk about the Overton Window, the framing of this in public discourse, Trump has already moved the window of what is acceptable. There are a lot of cities around the country that have stopped doing sanctuary city-type policies, mainly because they do not want to cross the federal government," he said. "By and large, I think this will sort itself out... I don't think it is much ado about nothing, but politically speaking, I don't think it is a bad thing for Trump to be mixing it up with the [notoriously left wing] Ninth Circuit."
