On CNN Sunday morning, Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) said that anyone can be a Democrat, so long as they support abortion rights.
"As long as they are prepared to back the law, Roe vs. Wade, prepared to back women’s rights as we’ve defined them under the law,” Durbin said, “then I think they can be part of the party."
Bernie Sanders and DNC Chair Tom Perez recently campaigned for a mayoral candidate in Omaha who is a pro-life Democrat, sparking criticism from pro-choice groups like NARAL.
Later on Sunday morning, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi gave an opposite opinion: "Of course" you can be a pro-life Democrat, Pelosi said. "I've served in the House with many members who did not share my very positive, aggressive position on promoting a woman's right to choose."
