Emmy and Grammy-winning comedian Patton Oswalt (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Veep) opens the 2017 Writers Guild Awards West Coast ceremony. Oswalt took multiple shots at Trump in his monologue but the most memorable part may be when James Woods showed up to "scare" Oswalt who moments prior said he feared being "kicked to death" by the actor. "I know a lot of people here tonight are very angry about two things," Oswalt told the attendees. "Of course, one, that Deadpool is nominated for Best Screenplay. And that Trump is president. Look, I can't speak for Deadpool because in my opinion that should win f***ing Best Picture. That movie f***ing rules."
"And Donald Trump, I want to be very careful of making jokes about. One, because I don't want to be kicked to death by James Woods back stage. Which would be an honor by the way. That guy is amazing," he said.
Woods, notably a Hollywood conservative and Trump supporter, then made his appearance.
"Oh God damn it, oh shit. Sit down. God damn it!" Oswalt said as the actor grabbed at his feet.
"Sit down," he said. "Easy!"
After a back and forth Woods came up on stage to point out Oswalt's casual dress shoes. He took one off to show the audience.
"By the way, I lost half my Twitter following tonight coming here," Woods joked.
"Oh, did you?" Oswalt said. "Oh! All those egg avatars gone. That's terrible!"
"There's some peace here! We're reaching out." Oswald added.
