VP Mike Pence Casts Deciding Vote To Confirm Betsy DeVos

After a more-than-24-hour marathon of objections from Democrats, Betsy DeVos has been confirmed as education secretary. Vice President (and president of the Senate) Mike Pence cast the deciding vote after a 50-50 vote to confirm the educational choice activist from Michigan after two Republicans (Collins and Murkowski) voted against DeVos.

According to a Senate historian the New York Times talked to, this is the first time a vice president has ever been summoned to the Capitol in order to break a tie on a cabinet confirmation.
