At Monday's White House press briefing, press secretary Josh Earnest said that Donald Trump knew Russia was hacking Democrats for his own benefit during the election. He said Trump "had a pretty good sense of whose side this activity was coming down on."
JOSH EARNEST: You didn't need a security clearance to figure out who benefitted from malicious Russian cyber activity. The president-elect didn't call it into question. He called on Russia to hack Secretary Clinton. So he certainly had a pretty good sense of whose side this activity was coming down on. The last several weeks of this election were focused on a discussion of emails that had been hacked and leaked by the Russians. These were emails from the DNC and John Podesta.
Donald Trump jokingly asked Russia in July: "I hope you're able to find the 30,000 e-mails that are missing. I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press. Let's see if that happens."
