The crowd did not settle down, even after Wasserman Schultz repeatedly banged a gavel and, according to MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell, the party chair and Democratic member of congress had to be escorted out by security.
CNN's MJ Lee said "it was a scene of complete chaos as Debbie Wasserman Schultz took the stage."
"They were yelling things like 'shame, shame, shame' and holding up signs that said the words 'emails,' and also some people were holding Bernie Sanders posters," Lee reported.
"She tried to power through her speech, despite there being so much yelling against her, but you can tell that this was a very awkward situation for her to be in," she said. "As she left the stage... there was a huge scrum of press trying to follow her, so she was basically surrounded by members of security as she left... She looked forward and left the room very quickly."
“I can see there’s a little bit of interest in my being here, and I can appreciate that interest,” Wasserman Schultz said as she ws escorted out.
