NBC reports on a statement from the father of Omar Mir Seddique Mateen, 29, the man who gunned down 50+ people at a gay nightclub in Orlando. The statement says "this has nothing to do with religion" and that Mateen got "angry" when he saw two gay men kissing in Miami a few weeks ago. The statement, as read by NBC's Willie Geist:
We are saying we are apologizing for the whole incident. We weren't aware of any action he has taken. We are in shock like the whole country. This has nothing to do with religion, said his father. He goes on to say, he claims that his son got very angry when he saw two men kissing in downtown Miami a couple of months ago and says he thinks that may have caused this. Why is this important? Because Pulse is a popular gay nightclub in Orlando... again, the father saying to NBC News that his son got angry when he saw two men kissing in Miami a couple of months ago. He believes there may be some motive there.
