Former Treasury Secretary Robert Reich appears on MSNBC to talk about Mitt Romney accusing Donald Trump of hiding a "bombshell" in his tax returns. Reich said the issue is if Trump is doing his "public duty" by "paying the taxes he owes the federal government."
"I assume Donald Trump is essentially focusing as he has on the fact that he is a billionaire," Reich, who served in Bill Clinton's cabinet, said. "He thinks it's very important for people to know that he has multiple billions of dollars. But that is not the issue. The issue is on his yearly income, is he doing his public duty? Is he paying the taxes that he owes the federal government? That's the question and he's ducking that question."
Reich, a close friend of the Clintons, said Americans will have "no choice" but to move to a Bernie Sanders style single-payer health care system. Reich said it's not a question of if, but when.
"Bernie Sanders is proposing what's called a single-payer plan. Most other countries, advanced countries, have this kind of plan. It's much cheaper on a per person basis, than the extraordinarily expensive private sector, for profit system we have. And that means that if we adopted a single payer plan, most Americans would be paying far less for their health insurance. That's the big deal," Reich explained.
"Eventually we have no choice," Reich said about the universal health care system. "Eventually, we're going to move into a single-payer plan. The question is whether we do it sooner or later."
