NBC News military analyst Retired U.S. Army General Barry McCaffrey criticized the U.S. strategy to take in and relocate Syrian refugees across the country. McCaffrey said the E.U. and U.S. should have spent more resources into stabilizing Jordan and Turkey so they could temporarily take in refugees until they can return home to a less volatile Syria.
"I think it's a huge failure on the part of the European Union in particular, but also United States to not focus on significant resources into Jordan and Turkey to stabilize the populations in place where they can go back home whether this cruel conflict is eventually over.
"Why would we haul them all over the world as refugees rather than supporting them in place?" McCaffrey asked.
