Petraeus: Iran Deal Makes Mideast "More Complex," Now Requires More U.S. "Involvement"

GEN. DAVID PETRAEUS: As we have seen in Iraq, Syria, and Yemen, Iran's activities are not only hostile to us and our partners, they also exacerbate Sunni feelings of alienation and disenfranchisement, which drives sectarian radicalization and the growth of groups like ISIS.

Therefore, instead of viewing the nuclear agreement as the end of a hostile relationship which will enable our disengagement from the Mideast, we should see it as inaugurating a new, more complex phase of this competition that will require instensified U.S. involvement in the region.
