Obama: Shutdown Putting Financial Strain On White House Employees

RICK WILLIAMS, WPVI-TV REPORTER: In an exclusive interview in the presidential library, President Obama told me he definitely feels the pain of the American people as the government shutdown enters its ninth day. Even the White House, he said, is feeling the pinch.

PRESIDENT OBAMA: I mean, I've got young people here who are expecting their first child and aren't sure whether they're going to be able to pay their mortgage and I have got folks who get into a car accident but aren't sure whether they can pay the deductible.

REPORTER: Is there a message of hope you can offer to the people of Philadelphia?

OBAMA: These things usually get worked out in the end but we shouldn't have to go from crisis to crisis and this kind of brinkmanship to solve these problems.
