Maher On Why "Tea People" Like Gingrich: Mean, Snarly And Racist Like Them

On Friday's broadcast of HBO's "Real Time" host Bill Maher shared his view of the "tea people" and why he believes they like Newt Gingrich.

"They may not see a Republican, but watching these last couple of debates -- all of them, but especially recently, the 'tea party,' who really kind of wag the dog, there in the Republican Party, they finally see somebody they like," Bill Maher said about the Tea Party's influence on the GOP. "I mean, Newt Gingrich, I'm sorry, but he does mirror who they are: Mean, snarly, borderline racist. I'm sorry, not borderline."

"He understands the base of that party. These, after all, are people who on Monday night booed the 'golden rule.' Ron Paul said we should have a golden rule -- 'Boo! Golden rule? Go back to Texas,'" Maher later said.
