Gov. Haley Barbour: Mitt Romney Is Not As Conservative As Me

Gov. Haley Barbour (R-Miss.) told Andrea Mitchell today that Mitt Romney is not as conservative as he is or some Republican voters. However, Barbour, the outgoing Governor of Mississippi, says if Romney is the party's nominee then conservatives will unite behind him for a greater goal, to beat Barack Obama.

"Well, I agree that Mitt Romney is not as conservative as Erick Erickson. And, in fact, Mitt Romney is not as conservative as Haley Barbour. But he's a heck of a lot more conservative than Barack Obama. And I think that if he is our nominee, conservatives will unite behind Mitt Romney because Barack Obama is the great uniter for conservatives, Republicans and lots and lots of independents and moderates in the United States who think our country is going in the wrong direction at warp speed and they know we've got to change the direction of this country. Even if it means electing a president who is not as conservative as I am or not as conservative as that voter might be," Gov. Barbour told MSNBC today.

Barbour said he does not regret not running for president this cycle. "You make a decision and you don't look back," he said.
