WH Adviser: Healthcare Costs Raises Tuition; Giving Insurance Will Drive Costs Down

Obama Domestic advisor Melody Barnes attributes high health care premiums to high tuition and vice versa. However, Barnes contradicted herself when she said giving college students health insurance would ultimately decrease the cost for healthcare. Barnes was responding to Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN) claiming college costs are on the rise due to federal and state regulations.

"Well, tuition is going up because state budgets are also feeling the crunch, but I also heard what Senator Alexander was saying. He was talking about costs like health care. I hope that means that he is now becoming a fan of the health care reform bill that we passed because we know that that's starting to bring health care costs down.

"We're bringing healthcare costs down. We're going to see that continuously over the next several years."
