SEIU spends big for Feigenholtz

The Service Employees’ International Union, an early endorser of state Rep. Sara Feigenholtz, is now up with $250,000 in television ads backing her candidacy

Feigenholtz is one of 11 Democrats running in a March 3 special election primary to succeed Rahm Emanuel in the House.

The SEIU's ad blitz is the most significant ad buy in the campaign so far, and should be useful in boosting Feigenholtz's name recognition in a low-profile special election.

Most candidates are focusing on direct mail campaigns, given the high cost of television in the Chicago media market.

Given the crowded primary field, the winner of the Democratic primary is expected to prevail with a narrow plurality of the vote. The other leading primary contenders include: Cook County Commissioner Mike Quigley, state Rep. John Fritchey, labor activist Tom Geoghegan and economics professor Charles Wheelan.
