Durbin calls on Burris to resign...

... but Sen. Roland Burris has no plans to resign from the Senate.

From my colleague Manu Raju:

Sen. Dick Durbin has told Sen. Roland Burris he should resign, but the embattled senator still has no plans to quit the Senate.

"If I were in that position, I would resign," Durbin said Tuesday afternoon.

Burris and Durbin spent an hour in a private meeting on Tuesday afternoon, where Durbin offered this advice.

Burris said nothing to reporters gathered in the hallway outside Durbin’s office, only saying that he was "under orders" from his attorneys not to talk. But behind the scenes, the two senators had plenty to discuss, including the new Senate Ethics Committee inquiry, an Illinois perjury investigation and whether Burris would even run in 2010.

Burris aides disputed a report in the Chicago Sun-Times earlier today that Burris would not run in 2010. Durbin also told Burris he would not support him in the Democratic primary if he ran in 2010.
