Matthews bro doubts he'll run for Senate

Mike Allen reported Sunday that Chris Matthews has signed a new contract with MSNBC, and given up his dream of becoming a senator from Pennsylvania.  An MSNBC spokeswoman denies our report to the Allentown Morning Call.

The paper also reports that Chris Matthews' brother, Montgomery County Commissioner Jim Matthews, spoke to Chris on Saturday, and doesn't think his brother will give up his show for a Senate campaign.

Jim Matthews said his brother has "looked at a few houses" in Philadelphia -- in Old City, Rittenhouse and Chestnut Hill -- but hasn't settled on one.

"I’m his mortgage guy," he said. "He is going to have one less loving brother if I find out he has picked out a house and I don’t know about it."

Matthews said he doubts his brother will give up his TV gig for a chance at the Senate, though.

"I think he is perhaps leaning towards what he does best," Jim Matthews said. "He has expressed that every time we talk."

He added: "He's still got the fire. He's still got the flair."
