Dennis Moore retiring after this term?

From Hotline on Call:

Sources close to Rep. Dennis Moore (KS-03) say he will not run for reelection in '10. It's unclear if he will launch a SEN bid instead; Sen. Sam Brownback (R) is stepping down and is expected to run for GOV.

Via a spokeswoman, Moore said today: "I am honored to be serving the people of the Third District and have every intention of continuing my work in Congress on their behalf."

If Moore retired, Democrats would face a challenge in holding this seat. It's been a Republican-leaning seat at the presidential level -- as Hotline's Tim Sahd notes, John McCain carried the district's base of Johnson County with 54 percent of the vote.

GOP sources believe State Senator Nick Jordan, who lost to Moore 56 to 40 percent this year, would likely run again and would be a strong candidate for an open seat race.
