Carmouche concedes to Fleming

The final House race of the election was decided this evening when Democrat Paul Carmouche conceded to Republican Congressman-elect John Fleming.

Fleming defeated Carmouche by 350 votes out of over 92,000 ballots cast. He will succeed Rep. Jim McCrery (R-La.) in Louisiana’s Fourth District.

"Of more than 92,000 votes cast throughout the 13 parishes of this district, it appears that our campaign has fallen slightly short,” Carmouche said in a statement. “I will not ask for a recount of any of the paper ballots, and I offer my warmest congratulations to Dr. Fleming.”

Democrats will hold 257 House seats in the 111th Congress, compared with 178 seats for Republicans. Democrats picked up a net of 21 House seats this election cycle.
