The blank check argument, take two

The National Republican Senatorial Committee is up with a second ad warning of the possibility of unchecked Democratic power.

The ad is against Democrat Jeff Merkley, who the committee warns could be part of a 60-seat Democratic supermajority in Congress if elected.  Merkley is narrowly leading Sen. Gordon Smith (R-Oregon) in public polling.

"History has taught us that one party rule in Washington just doesn’t work," the ad says. "Sending Jeff Merkley to the U.S. Senate could give one party a blank check."

It's the second ad the NRSC has aired warning about one-party rule in Washington. The committee aired a similar spot on behalf of Sen. Elizabeth Dole (R-N.C.) last week.
